Brakeman

Actually, this restaurant is now Charlie's La Shish, after the franchise owner (Charlie Bazzi) had a falling out with the main company over lack of support in turmoil which followed Chahine fleeing the country.

It no longer has any connection with the Dearborn-based La Shish, aside from retaining it as part of its name.

La Shish is owned by one of the largest individual fundraisers for Hezbollah in the world--Talal Khalil chahine. If you eat their food, you're supporting terrorism. No part of their culinary offerings should find their way into ANY American stomach.

I think that LaShish is sooooo very overpriced.

Pita Pita on Washtenaw is really fantastic.

I've been going to La Shish for almost seven years, and I have to say that the new one really disappointed me, when I went this past week. My fattoush had limp greens, baked--not fried--pita chips, and scant amounts of dressing, a sacrilege in Middle Eastern cooking. My tawook was disappointing, as well, with little flavor. Basically, it was like going to a Middle Eastern Olive Garden.

If you want truly good ME food, go to Al-Ajami in Warren. Superb.

I've been to La Shish several times in Dearborn (on Michigan Ave.) and it was pretty good almost every time. Their pita bread is always fresh and very tasty. I don't do kibbee neyah but their fried kibbee is very good. Their grilled shrimp is to die for! I don't think you can ever go wrong with ordering mezza at La Shish.

I don't recommend their baklava, though. For the best baklava in the US, go to Shatila (http://www.shatila.com/) in Dearborn.

I've been going to LaShish for about 20 years and they have had consistently fresh and amazing salads and delectable sandwhichs. Looking for something to satisfy your tasty needs? Go for the Ghallaba!
